So, we know that having a marg or a beer after a race can be a fun motivator, what about having a little mock-tail BEFORE you hit the road? When I realized I could make my own pre-workout drink that tastes just like a margarita - that was a pretty awesome day. This drink is SO GOOD. It's the perfect mix of sweet and salty, not only making it super similar to my favorite drink, but also exactly what you need to fuel with for a long run.
This drink is also a great electrolyte drink when you're sick. And if you can drink a margarita mocktail when you're sick, you're pretty much guaranteed to feel better soon!
Pre-Run Margarita Mocktail
- First pour in 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup orange juice
- Add in 1/8-1/4 cup lime juice
- Sprinkle in a 1/2 tsp of salt
- Drizzle some honey or agave nectar (I use about 1 tbsp)
- Drop 2-3 drops of your favorite citrus essential oils. I typically use 1 drop lemon and 1 drop grapefruit. Lime would be AMAZING too! Be sure to email me if you want to learn more about why I use essentials oil and how I get great prices on them!
You can shake this up and pour it over some ice cubes for "on the rocks" - or throw it in the blender with some ice for a blended margarita mocktail! I've done it both ways and love them both!
