I've got another awesome fit coach's wife to introduce you to today! This time - we're checking in to the COLLEGE BASEBALL WORLD! Meet Jess - an amazing blogger, fitness expert, runner, momma and baseball wife! I have to admit - she's kind of my blogging world idol. Don't you have one of those? She motivates me not only with her great workouts and positive outlook - but also with her success in blogging! I'm totally giggly and thrilled that she agreed to be featured for "The Spotlight" this month!
Jess Allen is an NSCA-CSCS trainer and author of Blonde Ponytail, where dynamic workouts and healthy recipes are shared along with life in between the workouts. Jess resides in Omaha, NE where her husband, Spencer coaches baseball at Creighton University. The couple welcomed their first child, Jada, in June 2013. You can find her on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram. For workouts, visit her YouTube channel. I encourage you to check out her blog - she ROCKS!
What does a typical game day look like for you?
College baseball plays 56 games in a season, so we try to attend as many home games Usually, Jada and I join my parents for 5 or 6 innings of a 9 inning game. It all depends on nap time!! ;)
How did you get into fitness?
I was a 3 sport athlete in high school and played college softball for Stanford University, so fitness has been a mandatory part of my life! :)
What is your favorite workout?
CrossFit WOD's
What do you eat for breakfast?
Oatmeal or banana & PB
What is the biggest challenge in staying fit while being a college baseball wife?
During the season, it can feel like I'm a single mom, so carving out time to workout IS tough. So, I make my workouts short, but intense!
What is your favorite part about being a baseball wife?
The relationship building: seeing my husband positively impact the lives of so many college baseball players is inspiring. His passion is evident.
What motivates you?
I think I'll always feel like an athlete even though my eligibility has expired. I like to continue to challenge myself and be a role model for my daughter.
Any food your absolutely avoid?
Beef and pork
What are some of your goals right now?
To PR my half marathon time and continue to improve my strength for CrossFit WOD's.
How do you keep your family active?
We take walks with our golden retriever Cooper. I have a dog in one hand, and the stroller in the other!
How do you get plugged in to an active community after a move?
In the past, it was finding a job. I had been in higher education prior to working as a personal trainer.
What is your advice for busy mom's trying to get/stay fit?
Choose intensity over duration. Make that 20 minutes count!
THANKS JESS and GO BLUE JAYS!
