Well Hello! I'm back! We had an amazing trip and I'm still getting back into the swing of things, but I do believe it's time to feature another kick-butt coach's wife! I love getting to know fellow coach's wives from all over the country who make fitness their priority. These women have A LOT on their plate (like anyone!) and still manage to take their health to the next level! Kris Clark, the wife of Mike Clark - the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for the Chicago Bears is another of these awesome women and I'm excited to share our interview today! Meet Kris! She has been married to Mike for 31 years and they have 3 children (Matthew - 28, JJ - 25, and Alicia - 23). Both of their sons were college football players and are currently pursuing coaching careers. Alicia is a pastry chef and was "killer" lacrosse player...she now loves to run! Kris has been a very successful AdvoCare Independent Distributor for 15 years while raising her family! She loves being active through running, lifting, yoga, skiing, paddle boarding and golf.
Have you always been active? What got your started?
I have always been active; participated in 3 sports in high school, and took up running in college. Running has followed me everywhere, but there was a time I didn’t do much, but picked it up again about 6 years ago. I lift weights too. It’s kind of hard not to when married to a strength coach.
What is your absolute favorite workout?
My favorite workout is a run, next favorite, lifting
What motivates you to workout?
I work out because I need to! I function better during the day and I love to eat-exercise allows me to eat about anything I want. Being healthy motivates me. I want to be active for my future grandchildren.
What do you eat for breakfast?
AdvoCare Meal Replacement Shake, baked oatmeal or homemade granola and yogurt/keifer
Do you have a favorite post-workout snack?
AdvoCare Chocolate Post Workout Recovery
What do you think is the biggest challenge in balancing your fitness with being a busy football wife?
I think we as women have hard time allowing ourselves to take time to exercise and take care of ourselves. As a football wife, it is even harder, because our husbands are not around a lot of time. We need to take care of ourselves so we can do a better job of taking care of our families. I work from home, and it is so easy to find other things that need my attention when I should be making calls and building my business.
Your husband's career often involves a lot of moving. How many moves have you made? And how do you get plugged into a new fitness community?
This is our 8th state and 13th house. Coach’s wives are a great place to start when you are new to an area. You can normally find a couple with the same interests. I also look for a gym to join shortly after we move to a new location.
Do you have any workout buddies?
I like to run with my niece who lives in this area. {Fellow Bear's Wife} Erin Meyer and I run and snowshoe together and we go to spin class when the weather is nasty.
Are there any foods you absolutely avoid?
I believe in everything in moderation, but try to keep my carb intake low.
What about a splurge food?
Hands down - tortilla chips!
How do you keep yourself accountable with your diet?
I don’t weigh myself, but know by how my clothes fit if I am eating too much. I think portion size is the biggest problem we have in the US right now!
What is your favorite sport to watch?
Football and running - I love the Boston Marathon. And need I say the Olympics?
What is your proudest accomplishment?
My children are my proudest accomplishment.
Any other advice to share?
Don’t take yourself too seriously. Have fun with your kids, and try not to be a perfectionist.
THANKS KRIS and GO BEARS!
