Hey there! Welcome to my first "Fitter in a Minute" feature! I'm excited about this part of the blog, because I know a  lot of you out there are super crunched for time. Now don't get me wrong, you aren't going to lose weight or truly "get fit" in only a minute. HOWEVER, every minute counts, and every chance you have to add activity to your day will add up! In this feature, I'm going to teach you an exercise that you can perform for up to (or more than) one minute at a time. These are great exercises to do before you brush your teeth, during a commercial break, or add in to a longer exercise routine.

Today's Fitter in a Minute Feature is....

THE PLANK!

"Arg Arg Matey...Walk the Plank!" Nope...not that kind. But that phrase can help you remember some safety cues. It's called a "plank" because you want to be as solid as a board, or plank. One straight line throughout your whole body.

The plank is one of THE BEST single exercises for core and total body toning, and the possibilities are endless. I demonstrate some variations here.
<<Ack! This is my first ever blog-video...excuse the nerves!>>
If you are new to the plank, start with 20-30 seconds at a time, and slowly add on time each day. If you find your back caving in or arching, lift your hips and tuck in your abs. This move should not hurt your back. If you've been doing the plank in your workouts for a while now, try some new variations, and start adding on time! I once watched a high school wrestler hold a plank for 14 minutes. That's MY goal for one day!!

Join me this week in the 7 day plank challenge - starting Monday. Do a plank (any kind, for as long as you can) each day, every day, for 7 days. We all have an extra 60 seconds somewhere in our day - fill it with the super-toning plank!

Instagram your plank pictures with the hashtag...

Or tell me about your plank victories in a comment here or on the Facebook page!
