If you're in the football coaching world - you know this past week was Convention Week! It's likely your husband spent some time this past week in Indianapolis, and maybe you went along too! Anyone go hang out with the AFCWA ladies this year? I followed them on Facebook and it looked like some fun times!
Depending on your current coaching situation each year, the convention can take on a whole different meaning. Sometimes it's a huge chance to network and find a job after being victim to "Black Monday" or your head coach being fired. Sometimes it's a chance to see if there is a way to move the ladder onto bigger and better things. Sometimes you're out there interviewing candidates for a current opening with your team. And sometimes, it's just a great opportunity for coaches to reunite with friends and past playing and coaching buddies for a week of fun!
I didn't go along this year (I'm waiting for it to be somewhere fun and warm) but while my husband was busy networking and hanging out with old and new friends, I had my own little vacation of my own. At home. With my dog.
What do you do when you have 4 nights to yourself? I know these nights are numbered for me, so I took full advantage of having some "me-time"
My Convention Week To-Do List
My Convention Week To-Do List
- Walks with girlfriends (and Oakley of course)
- Bake coconut flavored treats (hubby doesn't like coconut so I'll be sure to have stuffed them away in my belly before he gets home)
- Wash all of the bedding and then leave our bed un-made until the day he comes home.
- Sleep in the guest bed because it's way more comfortable and there aren't sheets on my bed
- Hang out with a friend while watching the Chargers v. Broncos game
- Phone dates with a friend from across the country
- Watch "The Bachelor". Every night. I actually don't even really like that show but there's something about having "single-girl-syndrome" that makes you watch it when hubby is gone.
- Go to the gym after work and have a super late dinner (most likely pancakes)
- Read every night before bed
- Watch ABC.com shows on the iPad in bed to fall asleep (I can never watch TV in bed when hubby is home)
- Catch up on my stack of fitness and pregnancy magazines
There were a few boring things on my list too like "buy groceries" and "go to work" but we don't need to think about that. Overall, while I hate having my husband away, I've found ways to make that time special and not so lonely. It helps me look forward to those time and not always dread them. I'm hoping I can keep that up when we have kiddos and make some special time with them too! It's of course always exciting to have him home, and his return gave me some motivation to make our bed and vacuum up some Oakley fur. You never would have known that I moved out of our room for a week!
Well - I'm off to celebrate our anniversary with dinner and a movie! I can't wait to spend some quality time with my favorite person! Have a great weekend!
