Football Wife Life: Real Life Unfiltered

Lately I've seen several blogs online about "real life" instead of the sugar coated highlights we all tend to share on social media. I'll admit it, I typically try to post the positive, happy things that are happening to me. Not only do I hope to motivate others and be a positive light to their day, the main reason I do it is to stay positive myself. The more I talk about and think about the bright side...the easier it is for me to stay optimistic. But sometimes I feel like it's gotten a little out of control. We as a human race tend to have a little issue with comparisons and jealousy (or is just me?!), so the world of social media can sometimes just make you feel worse about yourself. When all we see are the killer workouts, the perfectly posed baby pictures and the amazing vacation photos, we can feel downright bummed about our oh-so-normal life. Heck, there are even FILTERS to make our faces not look like we got 4 hours of sleep last night!
So, today's post is my real life - unfiltered.
First off - we still live in the dorms. I left Colorado almost 4 weeks ago...we spent 2 weeks with a friend and for the past 2 weeks we've been living in an on-campus apartment. I know this isn't anything new for lots of football families but it sure isn't normal! The summer school kids just moved in and I'm pretty sure they hate us. They have a squealing/screaming/hollering baby as a neighbor for about 18 hours out of the day. Oh and Miss Oakley is an on-campus pup as well. We're pretty sure she's not allowed, but we're going to play dumb as long as we can. Don't tell the housing supervisor!!! We have to leash her up to let her pee and I have to take her everywhere I go. She also hangs out at the football offices quite a bit. We're super thankful for a nice (and FREE!) place to stay while we wait for our house to be done...but let's be honest. I want to settle into a house! It's been almost 6 months!
Little M is teething. AKA she's not the most pleasant child sometimes. The one good thing we've got going is that she's loving all things food, so I can usually distract her with some frozen blueberries or something. Her sleeping is another story. She'll only nap in the car, and at night she likes to have dance parties in our bed from about 10-midnight. They start by pathetically screaming and hanging off the edge of her portacrib and continue with flip flopping all over the bed, head bonking us or the headboard and attempting to cuddle with Oakley. Miss Oaks quickly had enough and now only sleeps in the living room. I might join her soon. M's sleep habits have been a source of stress for me since day 1, but I'm trying to chalk this up to teething and constant transitions. The other night we actually just had to turn on the lights and start laughing hysterically. This girl is pretty freaking entertaining when she's deliriously tired.
We haven't had a coffee maker for 12 days. I typically make a trip to McDonalds each afternoon during naptime to stock up on coffee to refrigerate for the next morning. I'm actually sitting in the McDonalds parking lot right now stealing their free wifi because we don't have wifi in the dorms. And it's naptime (see above).
My workouts are spotty at best. I've actually been pretty impressed that I've kept up running a few times a week because this south Texas heat is no joke. I haven't done anything longer than 3 miles though, I don't want Miss Oakley to die, and I'd prefer not to either. I've also been trying to do some 20 minute body weight workouts or yoga in the dorms while Little M watches Daniel Tiger.
Our house is almost done. It really is. After weeks of sloooooow progress, they have finally been getting the finishing touches done this week. I'm loving the kitchen and can't wait til my coffee maker and blender arrive so I can drink non-McDonalds coffee and green smoothies again. They even started laying sod in the back yard! I'm so excited to have grass, but I'm slightly concerned that this DEAD grass won't come back to life? Someone please reassure me that it will!?
So, that's my real life in a nut-shell right now. Not complaining, but not sugar coating either. Totally unfiltered. I've got a couple fun blog posts up my sleeves, but with my current wifi/baby/moving situation it might be a little while until they actually get written. I'll be back. Eventually. I promise. Until then, I am doing the best at keeping my Instagram current with my daily little amusements. Feel free to follow me there!

Pre-Post Update: Apparently Instagram is the only place where you'll actually get so see pictures. I'll try to get some up "illustrating" this post soon. The McDonalds internet isn't speedy enough to actually upload files. And the baby just woke up. So I'm just going to post this and get on my way. See ya again soon I hope!!

how about you?

Do you "filter' your life on social media?
Who wants to bring me a green smoothie?

Oh girl, you are building memories and stories that will last you a lifetime. And the way you respond to the daily, and unusual, challenges with humor and optimism will make them even better as time goes on. But who has time to reflect on a good story when another one is playing live right now. You inspire me!
