Football Wife Life: Transitions + Bloggers Huddle

It's been a while since I've posted about my life as a football wife, but don't you worry...it's still keeping me on my toes! The past few months have been pretty crazy for us, and have been a HUGE test of faith. In the middle of our last football season, our head coach announced that he would be retiring at the end of the season. In other industries, a boss retiring is cause for celebration, and doesn't usually mean a big change for his employees. Well in football, with the exception of an assistant coach being promoted, it often means the entire staff will be looking for jobs. So our season ended kind of bittersweet. We were excited and thankful for the years our head coach had put into the team, but we were unsure of where this coaching life would land us next.

When my husband's coaching commitments were done in December, before we had heard about another job offer, we decided to pack up our things, put them in storage and head back "home" to my parents house. We were planning on spending time over the holidays there anyways, so we wanted to get the packing out of the way and hopefully save some living expenses until he had a new job lined up. LIttle did we know that I would STILL BE HERE at the end of February, with another (likely) 2 months to go!!
Right before Christmas, there was an answer to our prayers, my hubby was offered a coaching job down in South Texas. A coach he had worked with at Colorado State while he was a graduate assistant had gotten the new head coaching job at Texas A&M Kingsville and brought him on as an assistant. We were so thankful to have a job lined up and hubby is PRETTY PUMPED about coaching football in Texas!

Fun as a family in Texas
Because of some hiring restrictions, he wasn't able to start work until February 1. We had a blast back in my hometown for a month, it was so fun having him around Little M so much! He headed out to Texas at the end of January and got started with his job. We couldn't find any short term rentals so he's been living in the dorms (sorry dude), while the baby and I have been staying with my family. It has been such a blessing to be welcomed back home. Not only do I get to spend quality time with my family...I even get a free babysitter sometimes! It definitely is hard being apart from my Coach though. :-(
Little M and I flew down to Texas last weekend to visit Coach and to check out our new hometown. It was so great to spend a weekend with him, but of course our time was way too short. We enjoyed dinner on the Riverwalk in San Antonio, and spent the rest of the weekend in Kingsville. We also made another HUGE leap of faith, and signed a contract to build a new house! What?! There aren't a whole lot of housing options in town, so we are excited about the opportunity to be in a new, family friendly neighborhood. Bonus? 2 other coaching families are building down the street! Fun times ahead y'all.

The next stop for this football family!
So, while our house is getting finished, I'll be busy picking out countertops and paint, and The Coach will be busy with Spring Ball. We're hoping to make another trip down there to visit before the actual move. I've also got a trip to Hawaii planned to visit my sister and brother-in-law and their sweet new baby girl! SQUEAL!!! I'M AN AUNT!! Needless to say, our life isn't boring. I'm so thankful for the challenges God has faced us with in the past few months. It doesn't always feel good at the time, but I know He's preparing us for big things, and strengthening us as a family while He's at it! I'm embracing the value of a TRANSITION...just like I learned in my 30 Days of Yoga. "A transition will always land you where you're supposed to be". I can't wait to share the rest of the journey in the months ahead!
Enough about me and my little football life...I've gotten to know several other football wives that love to blog too! It's a great community to be a part of, and I thought I would share what THEY have been up to lately in this month's Blogger's Huddle! Check out their links below!
