Hey friends! It's October and FINALLY maybe just maybe looking like I'll have a few fall-weather runs coming up! I'm just craving cooler weather! I'm a little over 4 weeks into my Harbor Half training program and I have to say it's going really well. Having a running buddy for the long runs sure is a huge motivator, and the fact that I got to do some out of town runs last week really helped break up the boring. The only bad part about my trip was that I brought along my trusty foam roller (great idea, used it daily!) but then I FORGOT IT!!! Whatever shall I do!?! I've been improvising with my tennis balls but am really needing to get it back soon!
Another thing that really has been making this training cycle go smoothly is the addition of essential oils. I feel like I've become a self-proclaimed oil ambassador...I just can't stop talking about these things! My current oil routine while training is using the inflammatory blend rub on my lower back and hamstrings before runs and before bed. I also use a combo of lavender and cedarwood on my feet at night so I can be sure to be getting the highest quality sleep possible! Finally, I've been really focusing on boosting my immune system since I always seem to get sick when I increase my mileage, so I've been diffusing and cleaning with the protective immune blend RELIGIOUSLY! So far, I've been feeling awesome! Oh and of course I use oils in my pre-run Margarita Mocktail!
As race day is approaching, I've been coaching my fellow Mom's in Motion Run Clubbers about training how you race. That means testing out pre-run meals and timing, carrying water bottles/fuel and running at the right time of day. I have to admit, I don't always practice what I preach! It's tough my friends, especially when kiddos are involved. I've gotten my pre-run fuel down pretty well and I typically run in the morning so those won't be too tough for me on race day, but honestly the hardest thing is carrying what I need! I do 95% of my runs with the BOB Stroller, a 20lb kiddo and my 4 legged buddy Miss Oakley. None of them will be joining me on race day (sad!) and I won't have many opportunities to train without them. While some might think that it will be much easier to run without them, I'm a little nervous about it! I love that I can load the BOB with extra water, snacks, my phone, etc. I'm a pretty minimalist runner typically because I HATE carrying stuff, so I'll have to get that ironed out in the coming weeks. Plus, Miss Oakley is really good at pulling us up hills!
I've got an 8 miler for my long run this week and I'm really starting to LOOK FORWARD to long runs! Isn't it funny how we crave a challenge?
I've gotten a lot of requests lately for more info about how my husband and I use essential oils as being a runner and athlete, so I've put together an online class just for athletes! It's perfect for runners, fitness fanatics, competitive athletes and even parents of little superstars! You'll learn about how the oils work naturally with your body, what to use before, during and after a workout, and even a little bit about sports injuries! Be sure to head over to my Home Field Essentials group and RSVP for the class! It's on Tuesday, October 20th at 8pm CST and you can tune in from anywhere!
