How to Channel Your Inner Athlete (for people who suck at sports)

Today I'm doing something a bit different, and I"m SO EXCITED about it! My good friend DaNelle over at Weed'em & Reap has asked me (me!?) to guest post for her today! Go check out her blog today for my How to Channel Your Inner Athlete for People Who Suck at Sports. I'm totally hopeless when it comes to team sports. Seriously. I actually played an entire season of rec basketball in 6th grade and didn't attempt a single basket!

One of the ways to channel your inner athlete you'll read about over in my guest post  is to use common sports equipment to add to your home workouts. Here is a super fun, make-you-feel-like-an-athlete workout you can do even if you're the WORST at sports!

Sports Equipment Circuit

15 Squats with a dodgeball between your knees
20 Russian Twists with a football
15 Overhead presses
1 minute of soccer ball jump taps
20 sit-up basketball throws

See below for photos, videos and descriptions of the workout!

Squats with a dodgeball between your knees! This helps engage your inner thighs! You can use any playground or foam ball around this size. Be sure to keep your knees in line with your toes and sit your butt back!  I much prefer the dodgeball squeezed between my knees to it being thrown at me from across a gym!

Russian Twists with a football! Tap the end of the football on the ground as you rotate side to side. Modify this by keeping your heels on the ground like the first picture. Focus on rotating from your core, rather than just passing the ball with your arms.

Overhead press! This is the CHEERING exercise! Use a theraband or dumbells or water bottles and press from your shoulders to straight over your head. Touchdown! Score! Do the thing! Win the points!!!!

Soccer ball jump taps! This one takes a little agility, but you don't have to be able to kick a ball thank goodness! You are just going to hop side to side over the ball, tapping your toe on the top each time!
Sit-up basketball throws! You can do this with a partner or a brick wall if you're alone! I had to use this video to prove how bad I am at ball handling. The upside to that is you get more oblique work when you have to reach side to side to get the ball!
Now...be sure to head over Weed'em & Reap to see more of my tips for channeling your inner athlete!
