Having a second baby is a big transition for a family! It's so different than having your first - while that is completely life-changing, everything is so focused on that first new little baby, that not much else has to be worried about. I've found with baby #2, the biggest thing is that we are still ON THE MOVE all the time (hello, 2 year old ball of energy), so we need to find ways to adapt and bring new baby along for the ride! When you add another little one to the bunch, you usually don't need too many new things, especially if it's the same gender, but there are a few things that can make life a whole lot easier.
Now honestly - if this were my dream must-have list it would include a house cleaner, a professional chef and a lawn guy. But let's be real. I've got it down to 4 must-haves for baby #2!
1. Covered Goods Multi-Use Nursing Cover
Ok - this thing is THE.BEST.THING.EVER. I've gotten so many compliments on it and I really don't know how I lived without it the first time around. This Covered Goods cover is not just a must-have for baby #2 - it's a must have for ANY mama! We are on the go a lot, and luckily, breastfeeding is portable. BUT - I always hated how I was struggling with those apron covers - flashing side-boob, bare back, tangling up trying to see the baby...really I felt like I was drawing more attention to myself trying to nurse with one of those than if I just whipped it out uncovered! Covered Goods changed all of that. It's so easy (and comfy!) to slip on, everything is covered, baby has plenty of room and I can easily peek at her from above. The fabric is so comfy and not hot, so it's perfect for this South Texas mama! In less than 2 months I've used it at the beach, in coffee shops, at football games, at friend's houses and more!
While I absolutely LOVE this as a nursing cover, I've probably gotten even more use out of it as a carseat cover. It keeps the sun off of little Hallie without it getting super hot in there, and keeps curious eyes and hands off of her in public (I know, protective parent!). Miss Mak loves peeking at her when she rides in the back of the cart and narrating whether she's awake or asleep.
The other way I've gotten to use this cover is as a cart cover! Carts are NASTY y'all - so when Miss Mak is riding in front and Hallie is in the Ergo, it's the perfect way to keep the germs at bay. My old bulky cart cover somehow vanished in the past 2 months so this has been great to have on hand!
I love how lightweight and small this is to keep with me all the time. I can easily throw it in my diaper bag and have it on hand everywhere we go! If you have little ones...you need this cover!

2. BOB Revolution Duallie
When I found out I was pregnant, I think the first thing I did was start searching for used BOB Revolution Duallies. I knew how important and awesome my single was for us, and it was definitely a must-have for baby #2! My dad found and gifted us with this awesome used Duallie and we've already gotten a lot of use out of it! Unfortunately, Hallie isn't a big fan of carseats or strollers (or anything but mama's arms, really...) so a lot of our walks and runs are serenaded by her crying. I'm hoping that as she gets a little older she'll learn to love runs in the BOB as much as me and her big sister do! I still call this a must-have for any mom who is hoping to run with her 2 littles. It's great for walks, the beach and groomed hiking trails too. It's bulky, but totally worth the size for the comfort and ease of pushing! I've gotta share something off of my wish-list here too...if you're needing to haul your double BOB around in the car, this Scout carrier hitch is awesome! I really want to get one to clear out our trunk again!
I totally recommend checking your local resale sites for used BOBs, because they are expensive! But you can also find them on Amazon!

3. A Baby Carrier
I don't know how moms of more than 1 kid live without some sort of baby carrier. When you just have one, it's totally acceptable to just sit in a chair and cuddle and rock them all day. If you have a toddler in the house, you know that's not really an option! For us, Miss Hallie really hates sitting in all-of-the-things (ie: bouncer, swing, carseat, stroller...) so this is a total lifesaver. She loves being snug up with mama, and mama can still play with big sister, clean the house, go for walks, workout, cook dinner and more!). I have both the Boba Wrap (like this) and the Ergo carrier with an infant insert. (like this one). The Boba is super cozy and she's really cuddled up in there, but it can be a little more cumbersome to wrap up on the go (lots of material!), and can get really hot when we are outside. I use the Ergo a lot more, it's easy to slip on and it breathes better for both of us! We switch them up though. There are tons of great wraps and carriers out there so just find one that works for you!
Apparently I still always have 2 hands full even with a kiddo on the carrier!
4. Backpack Diaper Bag
I knew when I got pregnant with #2 that I HAD to upgrade from my SkipHop diaper bag. I was resistant to the backpack thing with Miss Mak because I thought I would be "that mom"...but then reality sinks in and you realize that backpacks RULE! And hey - I still don't wear fanny packs or drive a mini-van so I still have a little cool left...right? Plus, there are a lot of really cool backpacks out there these days! I found all of these super expensive backpack diaper bags out there but knew that wasn't in the budget. I had 2 requirements: a waterbottle holder, a strap to hook over a stroller, and lots of pockets. Randomly on Amazon one day this one popped up (how do they know me so well!?) and I was sold! There are seriously a zillion pockets, an insulated water bottle holder, it's comfortable to wear and has an extra strap for wearing over your shoulder or hooking on a stroller. Plus it's not super girly so I can make my hubby carry it too!
That's it! My 4 Must-Haves! I've loved keeping things simple with baby #2! What would you add to the list? Anything I've missed or will need down the road?
xoxo,
Alyssa
