It's time for a little football here on the ol' Home Field blog! I don't post a lot about being a football wife because - hey, it's my husband's job just like your husband has a job. It comes with it's own set of struggles and perks! While it's a demanding schedule, I wouldn't trade our football life and football family for the world! I do like to share little peeks into our little football family life from time to time though...so here we go...
BIG shout out to Under Armour and Lisa Wells for these awesome sunglasses for my coach! With year round sun exposure here in TX - a good pair of sunglass is so important out on the field! He's loving these CORE 2.0's!! (#ad - we were provided these sunglasses for free in exchange for an honest review)
I was planning to post about Spring Football (the 4 weeks in March/April where college football teams get to do official practices and scrimmages) while it was happening but apparently I missed the ball on that one. So I guess y'all will just get a recap!
We wrapped up our spring ball season last Saturday with a BEAUTIFUL evening spring game. Seriously, you couldn't have asked for better weather. My kids happened to cooperate the whole time as well (I know, a miracle) which made for a perfect night!

Spring Ball is actually one of my favorite times of the football year. As a college coaching family, we have lots of "football seasons". We have pre-season, season, recruiting, conditioning, spring ball, recruiting and camps. Yeah. If you though a football coach just worked Aug- Nov, you thought wrong! But I love spring ball for a few reasons. First, we get to enjoy some football after a few month break from the official season, and it's so fun to get back on the field! Second, at least here in Texas, the practices are actually cool enough to attend, so I get to bring the kiddos more often.
Unfortunately this season, our team held many of their practices in the evening. Not only did this mean that we didn't get to go as much, it also meant I had lots of solo parenting bedtimes in the past month!
Luckily, we stayed busy and we made time to get to the field or to practices as much as possible during the day.

This was my first spring ball with 2 kids - who both happen to be ON THE MOVE!! No more Ergo pack and sleeping newborn (that was short lived!!).
Here are a few fun things I did with the girls during spring ball:
Here are a few fun things I did with the girls during spring ball:
- Brought treats for the "football boys"!! This is Miss M's favorite thing to do. We bake treats together (she gets to pick something from the store to make), package them up and hand them out to the O-Line after practice. They like to give the girls high-5's and knuckles. It's basically adorable.
- Running on campus. I like to get out of the neighborhood for walks and runs sometimes, so it was fun to head over during practice and go for a run on campus, finishing at the football field. Then the kids could get out and play until Daddy was done.
- Checked out Beach Volleyball. We love allthesports here in this family, and this year our school had their inaugural season of beach volleyball! A few of their matches coincided with football practice so it was fun to watch both in one trip!
- Wear the kids out. Miss M still loves to run the track and swing on the hurdles and walk on the steeplechase "beam". Her newest thing is running in the endzone after practice, following the letters printed on the field! Football practice is the perfect place to get a bit of daddy time (afterwards), watch some football and ensure a good night's sleep!
- Snacks. Of course all the snacks. A few of our scrimmages actually went over lunchtime so I brought our lunch trays full of food to keep the kids occupied and full!
- For the spring game we actually sat in the stands with great success. #footballwifehack - find the handicap seating areas of the bleachers and bring your strollers! After the game we headed down on the field for lots of running and hugs from Daddy. Miss M also found the emptied out ice on the ground from the water coolers. It was the closest to snow she'll ever get here!!
While Spring Football is fun, I'm excited for SUMMER now! Summer means some extra time with my hubby, a chance for vacations and no more solo bedtimes!!
